Hi, my name is Joel Wescott, but you probably guessed that from the domain name. I’m part copywriter, part creative director, and all trivia team ringer. I was raised by by two parents who worked and syndicated television shows, making me fluent in English and sarcasm as well as speaking French fairly well.
Things I believe about advertising in 2026:
• Good ideas can definitely come from anywhere. But great ideas usually happen when everyone ignores where the idea came from and work together to give it a brain, a heart, and a funny bone.
• AI is not an idea. It’s a platform. That doesn’t mean you don’t have to know how to use it. But you also have to realize that it can only do about 50% of the work. You still have to do the other 50% of it.
• People respect leaders who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty by doing the work way more than ones who get them dirty by flinging mud. The best creatives aim to work hard and be kind.
• Your first concept is usually never your best concept. But it’s almost always the closest to the strategy. You can keep going down the trail, but there’s a lot of fruit in the first thought and all you have to do is dig a little.
